In 2017 Matej travelled to the Republic of Congo with his supervisor Dr. Václav Gvoždík as an employee of the Institute of Vertebrate Biology (CZE). The goal of this research expedition was to study the enigmatic Congo dwarf croodile (Osteolaemus osborni) and it was funded by the Neuron Fond for Support of Science. The film Mysterious Crocodile of the Congo was produced in Czech and English language and tells a story about the scientific work in the Congo. Apart from the field work with crocodiles it shows the sad reality of this country – nature destruction and the bushmeat problematics. From 2018 it is broadcasted by Prima ZOOM television in the Czech Republic.
